About The Position

This position will serve as one of three executives in the College of Education (COE), Dean's Office, University of Hawaii at Manoa. This position will be organizationally located in the Dean's Office and will work in tandem to effectively provide research, administrative and academic leadership in the College. This position will coordinate and ensure effective leadership of research programs funded by State/Federal, private, foundation and non-government organizations in the College of Education.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Education or equivalent in education and experience.
  • Attainment of academic rank of Associate or Full Professor and have a demonstrated record of research and administrative experience prior to appointment.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in higher education management, institutional planning, and academic affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate an academic vision and link it with internal capacities and external constraints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the full range of internal and external university constituents.
  • Research publication records commensurate with academic rank.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as journal editor, including Associate or Assistant editors.
  • Successful in securing extramural funding, including federal, national, professional organizations, and/or private foundations.
  • Experience in fundraising with individuals, corporations and/or foundations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and strategic oversight and review of contracts and grants including the development and growth of support for soliciting, preparing and obtaining COE contract and grant activities in collaboration of the new College of Education Research Institute (CERI).
  • Develop and implement strategies for overall faculty development, including aid in research support.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and internal/external constituencies to develop long-range and short-range plans and measurable benchmarks that support the development of COE.
  • Work with the Dean, faculty, associate deans, staff, University executives, and other constituencies to develop and implement research strategies for increased resource acquisition including targeted state legislative requests and proposals to foundation and private entities.
  • Collaborate with the Dean, faculty, staff and other constituencies and serve as the liaison in developing short-range and long-range facility use plans for Everly Hall, Wist Hall, Castle Memorial, Snyder Hall, and extramural project locations.
  • Promote and support projects and activities between the COE and other campus units to include developing and supporting partnerships with schools, state agencies and private and public entities.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental and interdisciplinary projects and integrate research policies, priorities and programs within COE.
  • Identify research priorities within the context of COE's vision, mission and strategic plan.
  • Serve as spokesperson for the College in venues as designated by the Dean.
  • Serve on designated College, University and national committees or advisory committees of other agencies/groups as requested.
  • Maintain close communications with educational organizations and stakeholders in order to identify research needs.
  • Advocate among COE stakeholders in support of COE research.
  • Participate in COE budget development with the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  • Assist the Dean with reports, issues, and concerns related to the successful development of various departments/units in the COE.
