About The Position

William Paterson University invites applications for the full-time position of Associate Dean in the College of Education, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Job Summary: Reporting to the Academic Dean, the Associate Dean serves as a key partner in advancing the College’s academic, fiscal, and administrative priorities. The Associate Dean collaborates with the Dean to provide strategic leadership in curriculum and program development, accreditation and program review, assessment, faculty and staff recruitment and retention, and the advancement of research, scholarship, and grant activity. The Associate Dean also supports fundraising efforts and represents the College to senior administration, students, alumni, and internal and external constituents. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Academic Leadership Collaborates with the Dean to provide innovative leadership and vision in the development, growth, and implementation of academic programs and policies within the College. Leads program planning, evaluation, curriculum development, and the assessment of student learning outcomes to promote continuous improvement. Oversees program review processes and recommends enhancements to academic offerings, including the integration of emerging technologies. Ensures the achievement of strategic plan goals aligned with the College’s priorities. Supports compliance with regional accreditation standards and specialized accreditation requirements for applicable programs. Promotes the expansion and quality of in-person, hybrid, and online programs, dual enrollment opportunities, and other innovative instructional initiatives. Faculty, Staff, and Student Success Supports the recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of excellent and diverse full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and professional and support staff. Fosters an inclusive academic environment that emphasizes professionalism, excellence, integrity, and collaboration. Supports strategic enrollment initiatives, including student recruitment and retention, program marketing, and community engagement. Manages the resolution of student concerns related to instruction, grades, program requirements, and course scheduling. Assists in the training, mentoring, and professional development of College staff. Operations and Administration Assists in developing and managing the College’s operating budget; supports resource planning and allocation and oversees expenditures. Maintains clear lines of communication among faculty, department chairs, staff, students, and administrators to promote a collegial and supportive working and learning environment. Monitors College facilities to ensure offices, classrooms, and laboratories provide a safe, user-friendly environment for all occupants. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and University policies. External Relations and Institutional Engagement Serves as an active member of the Deans Council and represents the Dean in University-wide and College-wide meetings, committees, and leadership initiatives. Advances a scholarly environment aligned with the University’s mission, values, and strategic priorities while enhancing the visibility and impact of the College’s educational, outreach, and research activities. Partners with the Dean and Institutional Advancement to support fundraising initiatives that sustain programs and secure funding for scholarships, technology, and capital priorities, while encouraging public-private partnerships. Cultivates productive relationships with alumni, donors, community leaders, and other stakeholders to support strategic improvement efforts. Represents the College and the University at state and national meetings, conferences, and events.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a discipline aligned with the College’s academic programs.
  • Minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience at a four-year college or university, with a record sufficient for appointment at the rank of professor.
  • At least three years of progressively responsible administrative or faculty leadership experience, including engagement with strategic enrollment initiatives and student success efforts.
  • Strong record of scholarship and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of professor.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and experience supporting student success across diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence.
  • Effectiveness working in technology-rich environments, including support for online and hybrid education.
  • Proven ability to lead collaboratively and foster inclusive, high-performing working relationships.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across a complex and diverse academic environment.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, analytical ability, and sound judgment in addressing complex organizational challenges.
