About The Position

This position assists the Dean in providing organizational and administrative leadership of an academic department and is responsible for the administration, planning, faculty and staff development, and coordination of all aspects of department operations. Responsibilities include managing personnel, fiscal and physical resources, maintaining operational oversight of instructional facilities, leadership, planning, and coordination of departmental processes and communications for their specific assigned areas within the academic department. Manages program and course offerings, curriculum development needs, and compliance with accreditation and licensing regulations; supports College initiatives and promotes positive student experiences and quality learning environments. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and support of student, workforce and community success. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Theatre, Music, Film, Arts Administration or alternatively, Organizational Leadership or Education (leadership in a community college or university)
  • Must obtain a Master’s Degree in a related discipline within (3) years from date of hire.
  • Five (5) years of post-secondary teaching and/or related professional experience
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role

Nice To Haves

  • Terminal degree in a related discipline — MFA, PhD, or EdD in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Theatre, Music, Film, Arts Administration, or a related field
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level, ideally in one or more of the disciplines within the department (Art, Music, Film, Theatre and Dance)
  • Experience supervising post-secondary faculty, teaching artists, or instructional support staff
  • Experience with program review, accreditation, or licensing requirements relevant to fine and performing arts programs
  • Background in community arts organizations or arts administration outside of higher education
  • Knowledge of and experience with complex academic programs’ needs, such as scheduling, physical lab spaces and curriculum.
  • Demonstrated fiscal management experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing and sustaining external partnerships with arts organizations, community stakeholders, and educational institutions

Responsibilities

  • Supports CNM’s mission and goals, with the College’s primary focus being on student success. Measures of student success include but are not limited to: a) increasing student retention, b) improving graduation rates, and c) strengthening academic performance.
  • Supports faculty and staff to develop strategies for instruction that are consistent with achieving the above objectives
  • Assists in managing the activities of the department, which includes planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards, as well as CNM Board policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Assists in implementing department initiatives, ensures maintenance, security, and safety standards; maintaining data and records; facilitating teaching and learning processes, and meeting administrative deadlines.
  • Assists the Dean with the department’s strategic planning process, monitoring and formulating projections of school goals and objectives; monitors and manages progress toward achievement of goals resulting in student success.
  • Hires, supervises, mentors, evaluates and oversees onboarding and professional development for designated faculty and instructional support staff, including dual credit instructors teaching off site
  • Works with the master scheduling office to ensure a data-based, student-centered Master Schedule is created and coordinates faculty assignments.
  • Supports ongoing professional development for assigned faculty.
  • Participates in leadership development for faculty Chairs and/or Directors.
  • Provides leadership in management, implementation and promotion of school initiatives; participates in credit and noncredit curricular and program (credit and noncredit) changes and new program development.
  • Participates in departmental processes, including program review, catalog, program accreditation, and course/discipline/school assessment.
  • Provides oversight of instructional facility maintenance in support of academic delivery; participates in the planning, compiling, and advocacy for facilities and equipment resources.
  • Responds to faculty, staff, and student concerns; mediates student issues and grade appeals in coordination with the Dean of Students, Human Resources, Vice President of Academic Affairs Office, and others as appropriate.
  • Serves as fiscal control agent and assists with fiscal responsibilities.
  • Represents the department and promotes community and advisory participation in CNM programs; serves on internal and external committees and acts as a communications liaison in support of committee initiatives.
  • Develops, supports and administers dual credit offerings in collaboration with Workforce and Community Success and Enrollment Management and Student Success as appropriate.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
