About The Position

As an Associate Data Engineer – TIBCO / Integration, you will support the development and operation of PetSmart’s enterprise system integrations that enable reliable, secure data exchange across the business. This entry-level role focuses on learning PetSmart’s integration architecture, enterprise platforms, and BIRI fundamentals while delivering well-defined integration and data components under the guidance of senior engineers. You will gain hands-on experience with TIBCO-based integrations, APIs, and message-driven systems while building a strong foundation in data engineering best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or in progress) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related fields.
  • 0–2 years of experience (including internships, co-ops, or academic projects) in data engineering, integration engineering, or software development.
  • Foundational knowledge of integration concepts, including APIs, message-based systems, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Basic proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Java.
  • Familiarity with REST/SOAP APIs, JSON/XML, messaging concepts (JMS), and version control tools such as Git.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and the ability to apply feedback quickly.
  • Clear communication skills and a reliable, team-first mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to TIBCO, MuleSoft, Boomi, or similar integration platforms is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply TIBCO integration platforms (e.g., TIBCO BusinessWorks 6, EMS, Container Edition) and PetSmart integration standards, patterns, and governance practices.
  • Build and maintain basic integration components within existing solutions, including process flows, transitions, connectors, adapters, and message transformations.
  • Support API-based integrations (REST/SOAP) and message-driven integrations using JMS, pub-sub, queues, and topics to enable synchronous and asynchronous data exchange used in technologies like RabbitMQ or GCP Pub/Sub.
  • Develop data transformations, mappings, and validations to ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency across systems.
  • Apply best-fit governance, security, and compliance requirements defined by senior engineers.
  • Write and maintain tests, documentation, and deployment artifacts; participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback quickly.
  • Assist with monitoring, alerting, and basic troubleshooting of integration and data pipelines; escalate issues as needed.
  • Follow coding standards and engineering best practices; contribute to continuous improvement through automation and simplification of repetitive tasks.
  • Collaborate with team members to clarify requirements, understand acceptance criteria, and ensure deliverables meet usability and quality expectations.
