As an Associate Custodian at Purdue University, you will assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment in University facilities. Your responsibilities will include providing custodial services in areas such as classrooms, offices, research labs, and public spaces. You will develop relationships with building occupants and respond to their requests, as well as provide building access by locking and unlocking areas as scheduled by the department. In addition, you will be required to respond to campus crises situations to enhance public safety and minimize infrastructure damage. Your role will also involve outdoor work, such as removing snow and ice from entrances, steps, and sidewalks using various hand tools and snow blowers. Under general supervision, you will clean, sanitize, and maintain work, learning, research, and public spaces in and around campus facilities using established practices and procedures. This includes cleaning, dusting, and wiping furniture, walls, fixtures, and surfaces, as well as sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming floors.

  • Six months custodial experience.
  • 24 months total work experience.
  • Must complete onboarding training, or be enrolled in program, within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understand English to effectively communicate.
  • Basic math skills and good work organization required.
  • Ability to learn and use powered and non-powered floor care equipment.
  • Must be able to work well with others and work in a team environment.
  • Learn and follow safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 60 lbs occasionally.
  • Work outdoors 10% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees.
