About The Position

The Associate Curator of American Painting & Drawing at The Metropolitan Museum of Art will play a pivotal role in the research, interpretation, and exhibition of the Museum's extensive collection of American art. This position requires a deep understanding of eighteenth and nineteenth-century art and culture, particularly in landscape painting. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating innovative research strategies, contributing to the ongoing assessment of the collection, and proposing future exhibitions and installations that reflect the diverse narratives of American artistic expression. The Associate Curator will work collaboratively with colleagues, donors, and the broader community to enhance the Museum's offerings and engage a wide audience. This role is not only about curating exhibitions but also about fostering relationships with supporters, collectors, and academic institutions, ensuring that the Museum remains a vibrant center for art and culture. In addition to curatorial duties, the Associate Curator will be expected to contribute to the educational mission of the Museum through public lectures, gallery talks, and mentoring of interns and fellows. The position also involves developing training sessions for volunteer guides and participating in programming for departmental support groups.
