About the position

The Associate Counselor position at Central Methodist University provides essential counseling services to students, faculty, and staff, focusing on mental health support and academic success. The role involves conducting personal counseling sessions, crisis intervention, and outreach programming, while collaborating closely with the Counseling Center Director to address the needs of the campus community.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in personal counseling sessions with students to provide mental health counseling.
  • Conducts clinical assessments to identify needs and implements appropriate treatment plan interventions.
  • Provides case management coordination and community referrals.
  • Assists students experiencing academic difficulty to develop a plan of action for academic success.
  • Conducts appropriate counseling interventions for students in academic distress.
  • Assists with crisis intervention services for students experiencing mental health emergencies.
  • Completes initial intake assessments and implements treatment plans, making referrals to community resources as needed.
  • Consults with staff, faculty, and administration regarding student behavior and performance issues.
  • Completes and maintains thorough documentation of student interactions within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Develops and conducts workshops for students on various topics related to academic and personal development.
  • Provides psycho-education to students and the campus community.
  • Documents, tracks, and analyzes service delivery statistics of mental health and chemical dependency counseling.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred in a relevant discipline.
  • Ability to pursue licensure within the state of Missouri.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and Apple systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in crisis intervention and mental health counseling.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
