About The Position

The incumbent will provide the Agency Counsel and/or Agency Head with legal advice for the agency Board and staff in all matters, including litigation, briefs and legal papers, research, opinions and representation by Attorney General. The role involves conferring and corresponding with outside agencies on questions of law and procedure, conducting administrative hearings in connection with regulatory proceedings, reviewing and analyzing records of hearings, and providing and supervising legal advice to staff. Additionally, the incumbent may supervise staff and complete performance evaluations. The incumbent will also serve as the Agency Ethics Officer.

Requirements

• Admitted to the New York State Bar.
• Four years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to the Agency Counsel and/or Agency Head.
• Assist the agency Board and staff in all legal matters.
• Handle litigation, briefs, and legal papers.
• Conduct legal research and provide opinions.
• Represent the agency in matters involving the Attorney General.
• Confer and correspond with outside agencies on legal questions.
• Conduct administrative hearings related to regulatory proceedings.
• Review and analyze records of hearings.
• Supervise legal advice provided to staff.
• Supervise staff and complete performance evaluations.
• Serve as the Agency Ethics Officer.
