Under the direction of the Chief of Staff and in conjunction with the Office of General Counsel, the Director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs will be responsible for building, maintaining, and strengthening effective working relationships with elected officials, professional and advocacy organizations, policy coalitions, and community groups. This role serves as the primary point of contact for these stakeholders and identifies issues for escalation. The Director will act as the point of contact for legislative staff or legislators with questions regarding Justice Center operations or policies, including providing an overview of the Justice Center to legislative staff or legislators and representing the Justice Center at legislative forums or legislator facilitated meetings with external stakeholders. The position involves working with various departments to shape coalition-building and outreach strategy to achieve public policy aims and enactment of legislative priorities, developing legislative proposals, reviewing and analyzing the Governor's proposed Executive Budget, and assisting in the preparation of the Executive Director for legislative hearings. The Director will also manage the Justice Center's legislative portfolio, remain abreast of new developments in rules, regulations, court decisions, and legislation that affect the Agency, and educate affected business units to properly implement newly enacted legislation.
