About The Position

The Associate Corporate Counsel at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America (MBRDNA) is responsible for providing comprehensive legal support across various areas, including commercial contracts, intellectual property, data privacy, compliance, and more. This role requires a balance of legal expertise and practical business solutions, working closely with internal stakeholders in a hybrid work environment.

Requirements

  • J.D. Degree from an accredited law school.
  • 2-4 years of experience as a practicing attorney, ideally in a tech or automotive industry.
  • Ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice.
  • Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Admission to and current good standing with the bar of at least one state (California or Michigan preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a global tech company.
  • Experience with legal issues surrounding AI and autonomous vehicles.
  • Law firm experience.
  • CIPP/US (Privacy) Certified.
  • Familiarity with litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to engineering and product development teams.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review commercial contracts including tech licensing agreements and service agreements.
  • Manage the protection, commercialization, and licensing of intellectual property.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection laws and regulations in product development.
  • Advise on employment law matters, including employee relations and workplace policies.
  • Provide litigation support, including fact gathering and strategy development.
  • Advise on legal issues related to AI and emerging technologies.
  • Conduct legal research on new technologies and provide risk assessments.
  • Provide legal counsel on corporate governance, operations, and regulatory compliance.
