About The Position

WSP is seeking an Associate Consultant, Civil Engineer for their Washington DC office. This role involves supporting technical staff and project managers on various transportation engineering projects in both public and private sectors. The position is ideal for early career transportation engineers looking to contribute to innovative solutions while ensuring quality standards in design, safety, and functionality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and design/build processes.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Analytical mindset with sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing and office automation software.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior design experience.
  • Membership in local professional practice organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform basic professional civil engineering work related to research and inspections of site conditions and resources.
  • Assist in developing technologies, monitoring devices, and design requirements for safety and functionality.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering and construction issues.
  • Write technical reports summarizing research findings and conclusions.
  • Assist project managers with risk identification and assessment, providing input on design concepts and construction activities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
  • Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field/site work and permitting.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with engineers and planners on infrastructure projects funded by various authorities.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.
