About the position

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Transportation Construction Associate Engineer to join our Evansville team! Initially will function as an Inspector on INDOT transportation construction projects while gaining experience to advance to more responsible roles. Under general supervision, performs inspection tasks typical of any highway construction project, including monitoring and documentation of contractor activities. Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable contract documents, standards, and specifications. May participate in discussions to determine appropriate resolution. Inspection activities are determined and assigned by supervisory personnel. Performs civil and structural tests, such as soil compaction, moisture content, aggregation, graduation, concrete slump, air entrainment, yield, preparation and testing of concrete test specimens, lines and grades surveys, bolt torques, asphalt sampling, coring test specimens, pavement smoothness measurements, flowable fill sample testing and strength testing, pavement marking retro-reflectivity measurement. Sampling and testing of other materials as directed. Inspection tasks may include but are not limited to: clearing and grubbing, earthwork, subgrade prep including stabilization, compacted aggregate placement, concrete and asphalt paving, incidental construction (guardrail, barrier wall, fence, sidewalk, curb ramps, curbs, bridge approaches, riprap, structural steel painting, seeding and sodding, landscaping), structure inspection including bridges (pile driving, pier and end bent construction, rebar placement, concrete placement, bearing placement, beam placement, deck forming, superstructure rebar and concrete placement, bridge railings), drainage structures (box culverts, storm and sanitary pipe, precast drainage structures, trenchless pipe installation, underdrains), bridge deck overlays, permanent and temporary retaining walls. Traffic control devices, sign installation, traffic signals, highway lighting, pavement markings, ITS.

Responsibilities

  • Function as an Inspector on INDOT transportation construction projects.
  • Perform inspection tasks typical of highway construction projects.
  • Monitor and document contractor activities.
  • Inspect various facets of work on the construction site.
  • Perform continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable contract documents, standards, and specifications.
  • Participate in discussions to determine appropriate resolution.
  • Perform civil and structural tests.
  • Conduct sampling and testing of materials as directed.
  • Inspect tasks including clearing and grubbing, earthwork, subgrade prep, concrete and asphalt paving, and structure inspection.

Requirements

  • 4 year degree in Engineering or Construction related field highly preferred.
  • 0 to 3 years of related work experience in engineering or construction.
  • Familiarity with industry practices.
  • INDOT experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with Engineering and Construction.
  • Experience in material testing (primarily concrete and soils) preferred.
