The Alabama Prison Arts + Education Project is looking for an Associate Community Education Coordinator (CEC) to support educational and art programming at state correctional facilities. The Associate CEC works closely with APAEP staff to create spaces for learning and creativity for students across Alabama. This part-time position assists in program development, provides instructor and student support, ensures APAEP policies and protocols are kept by those teaching for APAEP, and works to update and maintain all APAEP databases. A successful candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, adheres to strict deadlines, adaptable, passionate, and works well in strictly regimented environments. Administrative experience managing multiple lines of communication and complex record-keeping systems is key. Extensive knowledge of Office 365 is required. System-impacted candidates are encouraged to apply. This position is based in Auburn, AL. The work involves regular travel and atypical work hours.

  • Data entry for class data/records and program databases, maintaining confidential print and digital records
  • Preparing educational and training materials for all Community Education classes
  • Communication with instructors on weekly reports/paperwork
  • Coordinates Books Behind Bars project
  • Promoting APAEP social media presence
  • Support for visiting classes at an Alabama facility, if needed
  • Support of Re-Entry Guide Development
  • Organizing remote education materials
  • Assisting with other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor's Degree in discipline related to program (Education or related field).
  • 2 years of Experience in providing educational services.
  • Punctuality, Exceptional Communication and record keeping skills
  • Extensive background in Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and Cloud Storage systems.
  • Direct experience with the carceral system
  • Exceptional professionalism and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and to meet deadline
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience in administrative and organizational roles
