About The Position

The Conference of New England (CNE) is accepting applications for the position of Associate Commissioner. The CNE is an intercollegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA’s Division III. The Conference footprint consists of institutions located in the New England region. Current member institutions include Curry College, Endicott College, Gordon College, Nichols College, Johnson & Wales University, Roger Williams University, Suffolk University, University of Hartford, University of New England, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Western New England University. The CNE crowns team and individual champions in 21 sports and will add men's volleyball in 2027. The Associate Commissioner is a highly efficient and organized critical thinker who will serve in a leadership role and assist in all areas of conference operations with an emphasis on managing all aspects of championship administration and sports governance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of comparable experience in intercollegiate administration, with an emphasis in sport administration and/or event management.
  • The ability to be a proactive self-starter that can work in high-paced environment while being able to efficiently create solutions to conflict, develop a communication plan and execute to multiple constituent groups.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting to efficiently meet established goals and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a detailed manner.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Additional experience as a student-athlete and/or coach is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the membership with guidance and interpretation of applicable regular season and Championship sport policies.
  • Maintain and distribute the Conference handbook while ensuring timely updates as decisions are vetted and finalized through the Conference governance process.
  • Oversee all sport committees while developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with sport chairs to create synergy between the conference office and each sport group.
  • Schedule and facilitate all preseason and postseason coaches’ meetings, inclusive of producing agendas and any necessary supplemental information.
  • Serve as liaison to the Conference’s Sport Management Committee, composed of senior-level administrators from each member institution that have a focus on sport operational policy, scheduling, and championship formats.
  • Additionally, the individual will work collaboratively with the committee chair in the development and communication of recommendations to the Athletic Directors.
  • Oversight of strategic planning in ensuring quality execution of Conference Championships while ensuring Conference operations and policy continue to be aligned with NCAA Championship policy and correlating playing rules.
  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of championship administration including bracket seeding internal announcements, game times, policy interpretation and enforcement.
  • Administer and oversee the bidding process with member institutions for Conference Championships conducted at pre-determined sites.
  • Manage vendor relations for Championship merchandise, apparel, signage, and awards.
  • Represent the Conference at Championship sites.
  • Provide guidance and insight to the Commissioner in sportsmanship and/or behavioral matters as necessary.
  • Serve as the conference liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and effectively organize and maintain a regular meeting cadence, plan and execute the annual in-person meeting and work with the committee to create and develop relevant initiatives.
  • Serve as the conference liaison to the Conference Sport Medicine Committee and effectively deliver recommendations from the Committee to the membership that directly impact student-athlete health and welfare.
  • Develop reports of committee meetings and move appropriate action through the governance structure.
  • Assist the Commissioner in developing and planning meeting agendas and materials for regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Assist the Commissioner with in conference and institutional compliance coordination.
  • Represent the Conference at select national/regional meetings and conventions.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Commissioner
