About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is responsible for overseeing the agency's financial operations, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, and maintaining an internal controls framework. This senior-level managerial position reports to the Deputy Commissioner of Finance and plays a critical role in strategic planning, leadership, and innovation within the agency's finance department.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • At least 11 years of experience in progressively responsible fiscal management.
  • An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Current accreditation as a Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
  • Extensive familiarity with Texas state budgets and appropriations processes, state and federal funding sources, and related regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure agency leadership and program staff have access to adequate information for operations and decision making.
  • Continually review and improve budget and accounting processes for efficiency and customer service.
  • Oversee TEA's internal controls and preparation of financial and legislative reports, ensuring compliance with applicable statutes and policies.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop a high-performing team in Accounting, Budget, and CPD focused on superior customer service.
  • Direct the preparation and review of TEA bill analysis and cost estimates during legislative sessions.
