About The Position

The Associate Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Clinical Nurse Manager in leading day-to-day unit operations with a strong focus on patient throughput, staffing coordination, and frontline leadership. This role serves as a bridge between bedside nursing staff and unit leadership, ensuring safe, timely, and efficient patient care delivery. The ANM plays a key role in managing patient flow, optimizing bed utilization, reducing discharge delays, and ensuring the unit meets operational and quality targets.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required; master's degree preferred.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi-state license required.
  • American Heart Association BLS required.
  • Advanced Life Support Certification, within your specialty (ACLS, PALS, or NRP) is required within 6 months of hire or transfer. Current incumbents must obtain within 6 months, by 8/1/2026.
  • Approved professional nursing certification required within 1 year of hire or transfer. Current incumbents must obtain within 1 year, by 2/1/2027.
  • Minimum 1 year medical/surgical experience desired; 1-2 years operating room experience desired.
  • ACLS required
  • 1-2 years of leadership, charge nurse, or clinical operations experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in patient flow, team leadership, and real-time problem-solving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as leadership skills required.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient flow on a shift-to-shift basis, ensuring timely admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Monitor discharge planning activities to reduce order-to-discharge and discharge-to-door times.
  • Partner with Care Management, Transport, Environmental Services, and ancillary departments to remove throughput barriers.
  • Oversee and support nursing staff in daily operations, ensuring adherence to standards of care and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage on-shift staffing allocations, floating decisions, and surge capacity response.
  • Escalate issues to appropriate leadership promptly and provide input on process improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in unit-based throughput initiatives and performance improvement projects.
  • Support onboarding, orientation, and ongoing competency development of staff.
  • Act as a resource nurse as needed during high-acuity or surge situations.
  • Foster and sustain a healthy work environment by modeling authentic leadership, promoting skilled communication, ensuring appropriate staffing, encouraging meaningful recognition, and engaging staff in shared decision-making to support morale, retention, and safe patient care.
