As an Associate Claims Specialist, you'll be responsible for providing an effortless experience on the most complex personal lines claims services functions. You'll conduct intake for first notice of loss and inquiries through phone, email, chat and text while promoting and providing outstanding customer service. You'll also be responsible for handling claims according to prescribed authority and standard claims methodologies, answering questions and providing guidance to policyholders, claimants, agents and others and creating an exceptional customer experience while contributing to individual and team performance expectations. In addition, you'll handle non-routine calls and complex service requests, frequently serve as a technical resource to team members and provide guidance on related issues. And you'll assist with all claims services call overflow (auto, property, commercial) and property catastrophe (CAT) support.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • State licensing where required.
  • Successful completion of required claims certification schools/classes.
  • One-year personal lines claims call center experience, with insurance knowledge and background.
  • Knowledge of all Claims Intake System(s), Claims Processing System(s), and the claims reporting process, as well as, detailed knowledge of insurance coverage’s, policies and claims handling procedures.
  • Solid understanding of Insurance industry operations and customer service methodology.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively interact with the policyholders, claimants, agents and co-workers.
  • Ability to make decisions such as the application of coverage’s, assignments, and work priorities.
  • Ability to efficiently operate personal computer and all related claims/business software.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior claims handling experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service, empathy, and multitasking skills
  • Call center experience (highly preferred)
  • Insurance or claims experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Delivers a positive customer service experience to internal, external, current, and prospective Nationwide customers.
  • Adheres to high standards of professional conduct while providing the delivery of outstanding claims service.
  • Authorizes and/or approves all claims payments within the delegated authority or within the maximum limits as outlined in company policies and procedures.
  • Determines the best course of action for the handling of each individual claim, with moderate direction and oversight. These options include the use of the Property Repair Network
  • Completes Notice of Loss and may determine certain policy coverages where necessary.
  • Consults on inquiry calls from policyholders, claimants, agents and others.
  • Responds effectively and appropriately to sensitive events and/or situations as needed.
  • Establishes and authorizes additional living expenses for complex claims.
  • Determines proper policy coverage on claims and supplements using Best Claims Services Practices.
  • Receives first notice of loss for claims and coordinates emergency services and temporary accommodations for member, informing them of all relevant field assignments.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
