About The Position

The Associate Claim Counsel Design Professional at Travelers Insurance is responsible for managing and resolving claims related to design professionals. This role involves thorough investigation, analysis, and legal advice to optimize claim results while ensuring superior customer service. The position also includes collaboration with underwriting colleagues and participation in strategic initiatives within the Bond & Specialty Insurance (BSI) team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Juris Doctorate Degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction of work.
  • 1-5 years of relevant legal or claim handling experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims with active supervision from claims management.
  • Prepare and present reports for management reflecting loss development and claim strategies.
  • Manage outside counsel and utilize litigation management plans and budgets.
  • Communicate significant claim exposures to underwriting.
  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials as necessary.
  • Identify recovery opportunities and coordinate efforts with the Recovery Management Unit.
  • Refine policy interpretation and coverage analysis skills, including drafting coverage opinions.
  • Negotiate settlements and review settlement agreements.
  • Support underwriting marketing efforts and participate in broker visits and seminars.
  • Monitor marketplace conditions and draft reference materials for colleagues.
  • Obtain and maintain required adjusters' licenses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
