About The Position

The Associate Chief Medical Officer at Good Samaritan University Hospital is a physician who possesses a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of New York and is Board-certified/eligible in a medical or surgical specialty. The Associate Chief Medical Officer will function as the Chief Medical Officer in the discharge of all duties in the event of the absence, illness, or incapacity of the CMO. This role involves serving on various hospital committees and participating in the development and furthering of clinical programs at the hospital.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in a recognized specialty and current NYS medical license.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of clinical practice experience, with at least 2 years in a physician leadership or medical administrative role.
  • Strong knowledge of hospital operations, quality improvement, regulatory requirements, and physician performance management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and work across departments in a complex healthcare environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, public health, or a related field preferred (not required).

Responsibilities

  • Function as the Chief Medical Officer in the discharge of all duties in the event of the absence, illness, or incapacity of the CMO.
  • Serve on Hospital committees, including but not limited to the Medical Executive Committee, Credentials Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, CH Leaders Forum, ED Door-to-Floor Committee, Daily Hospital Safety Huddle, Daily Flow Meeting, Long Length of Stay Meeting, CH Quality Management Committee, CH HAC Meeting, Hospital Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Committee, and Utilization Management Committee.
  • Participate in the development and furthering of clinical programs at Good Samaritan University Hospital.
  • Provide guidance, recommendations, and input on the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to clinical programs.
  • Participate in the Hospital Performance Improvement process and collaborate with the Vice President of Quality and Performance Improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Clinical Progression Team to facilitate inpatient diagnostic work-ups and daily evaluation of inpatients.
  • Participate in and serve as a physician resource for Risk Management activities and processes.
  • Collaborate with the CMO to implement care initiatives that follow evidence-based guidelines.
  • Contribute to excellent patient experience by utilizing the tools in the I-CARE about Patient Experience curriculum.
  • Provide ongoing medical education to Nursing Staff, Medical Staff, APPs, and Ancillary Medical Staff.
  • Perform periodic clinical rounding on hospital units.
  • Monitor and observe the professional competence, activities, and quality of care rendered by members of the Medical Staff.
  • Assist with disciplinary actions and conflict resolutions as they relate to the Medical Staff.
  • Provide other related administrative services as reasonably requested by the CMO.
  • Perform ongoing clinical documentation education for hospital-based providers.
  • Oversee appropriate use of diagnostic testing.
  • Demonstrate leadership in quality, patient safety, patient experience, and effective resource utilization.
  • Build consensus and foster collaboration across multiple disciplines.
  • Actively participate in Medical Executive, Credentials, and Peer Review Committees.
