About The Position

The Chaplain provides pastoral leadership in coordinating all campus ministerial activities including spiritual, religious, and personal counseling/guidance to residents, family members and staff. This role acts as a key ministry partner with the Lead Chaplain under their supervision and serves in a staff relationship to Administration and Department Directors. The Associate Chaplain establishes and maintains strong ties and relationships with all community residents, their families and their clergy, and functions as a key contact with clergy from the community surrounding the campus.

Requirements

  • Master's Level Graduate of Accredited Seminary or School of Theology
  • 1+ Years of experience
  • Ability to display empathy, listening, and people skills
  • Ability to coordinate with chaplains and interdisciplinary groups
  • Strong sense of spirituality to offer support and guidance to people from all religious backgrounds

Nice To Haves

  • Board Chaplain Certification (BCC) or eligible for certification with 2-4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead worship for each level of care, determining frequency that meets the needs of their residents, which may include regular services, sacraments, and occasional/seasonal offerings.
  • Share preaching/leading with volunteers or retired clergy.
  • Provide direct spiritual care to patients, families/caregivers, and staff fitting to their unique needs and in a timely manner.
  • Lead/facilitate caregiver support groups where needed.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with local clergy, acting as an ambassador for CL and working together to keep residents connected to and supported by their chosen spiritual leader(s) and community.
  • Be responsible for community programing such as hosted worship, teaching, devotionals and spiritual life.
  • Invite local or retired clergy to lead services (e.g., Catholic Mass, Episcopal Liturgy, Jewish Shabbat services, etc.) and welcome local ministry leaders to speak.
  • Participate in a teaching role in matters of faith, spirituality and Bible study appropriate to various levels of care, which can include facilitation of volunteer clergy or lay leaders to offer such teaching or seminars.
  • Engage the spiritual wellness section of residents’ LifeConnect profiles, using this information to alert pertinent staff of areas for support as residents settle into the community.
  • Participate and lead stand-up meetings and serve on committees or teams as assigned.
  • Assist in emergency situations and times of crisis, including establishing an on-call protocol for after hours.
