About The Position

The Associate Buyer at Dorner Manufacturing plays a crucial role in managing the procurement of materials and services essential for daily manufacturing operations. This position focuses on commodity management, including scheduling, negotiating, and expediting orders while ensuring quality standards are met. The Associate Buyer will also engage in various supply chain projects aimed at cost savings and inventory management, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the company's operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; or 8 years of related manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with supply chain management, logistics, and inventory control.
  • Understanding of procurement methods, including RFQs, RFPs, and purchase orders.
  • Skilled in managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy in orders and contracts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • APICS certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for timely ordering of required materials and requisition review.
  • Maintain ERP system parameters such as supplier lead times.
  • Determine methods of procurement such as direct purchase or quote.
  • Prepare purchase orders or quote requests.
  • Review quote proposals and negotiate within budgetary limitations.
  • Create, solicit, and analyze supplier RFQs.
  • Compare prices, specifications, and delivery dates; award contracts or place orders with suppliers.
  • Maintain procurement records including costs, delivery, product quality, and inventories.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods with quality control personnel and suppliers to determine corrective actions.
  • Expedite delivery of goods to users.
  • Engage in buying and negotiating with suppliers, including international ones.
  • Verify nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
  • Use MRP to initiate and change purchase orders.
  • Approve invoices.
  • Participate in supplier relationship strategy endeavors.
