About The Position
The Associate Buyer for Lingerie and Hosiery at Nordstrom plays a crucial role in planning and managing the inventory of the department. This position requires a detailed understanding of both product offerings and customer needs, which is essential for achieving financial objectives. The Associate Buyer collaborates closely with the Buyer to ensure that departmental sales volume, gross margin, and gross margin-return-on-investment (GMROI) targets are met and exceeded. A typical day involves partnering with the Associate Buyer to execute a seasonal merchandise strategy that is informed by customer preferences, fashion trends, and insights from the E-commerce Merchandiser and Retail Director. This strategy is designed to drive growth both in-store and online. The Associate Buyer is responsible for executing a buy plan that aligns with the merchandise strategy, optimizing product investments by channel, and ensuring alignment with financial plans. Additionally, the Associate Buyer leads the analysis of sales data to improve buying decisions and incorporates customer choice recommendations from the E-commerce Merchandiser. Communication with suppliers is also a key responsibility, as the Associate Buyer discusses performance expectations and necessary adjustments based on business needs. Negotiating profitability expectations is another critical aspect of the role. The Associate Buyer also directs inventory management during the season, making effective decisions regarding analysis, markdowns, replenishment, and reorders.
