About The Position

The Associate Buyer at Tillys is responsible for managing specific product classifications to achieve sales and profitability goals. This role involves ensuring the right products are available at the right time and price, supporting the overall buying strategy, and collaborating with various teams to execute product assortments effectively. The Associate Buyer will also handle fiscal duties, assortment planning, vendor relations, and training of junior staff, all while maintaining positive relationships with vendors and internal partners.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years minimum of Associate Buying experience required.
  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Excel and MS Word.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Numerical and analytical ability required.
  • Trend and fashion awareness with the ability to understand current trends and competition.
  • Ability to multitask and reprioritize projects frequently.
  • Independent, self-motivated, team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in retail buying or merchandising.
  • Knowledge of fashion trends and market analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a group of specific product classifications to achieve sales and profitability goals.
  • Ensure proper product availability in the right time, price, and quantity.
  • Support the overall area of Buyer's responsibility.
  • Handle all fiscal duties including sales, gross margins, turnover, and management of open to buy.
  • Responsible for assortment selection and development, including planning and customer focus.
  • Partner with Allocation, Marketing, and Visual teams for correct execution of assortments in store.
  • Plan and execute buying strategies, including negotiation skills and vendor relations.
  • Train and support Assistant Buyer and/or Administrative Assistant.
  • Manage departmental workflow in Buyer's absence.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendors and internal partners.
