The Associate Behavioral Health Counselor requires a broad, yet solid, understanding of human behavior and theories of counseling. This role is a team-based role where responsibility for patient well-being is diffused among the treatment team and the overall responsibility lies with a clinical supervisor or admitting provider. Your work would be greatly impacting not only the community you live in, but you would also be helping develop the future of behavioral health workers and the continuum of care while working with an adult and children population. This position does not require a college degree, must meet criteria for a Mental Health Practitioner as defined by Minnesota Department of Human Services. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in behavioral sciences or related field preferred.
  • Completion of a practicum or internship.
  • At least 4,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness, substance use disorders, emotional disturbances, traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities.
  • Alternatively, at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields and at least 2,000 hours of supervised work experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness, substance use disorders, emotional disturbances, traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities.
  • Must follow Minnesota State statute defining Mental Health Practitioner.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient needs, develop treatment plans, and implement treatment interventions specific to patient needs.
  • Continually assess patients' progress and revise treatment plans and interventions accordingly.
  • Document treatment sessions.
  • Provide patient progress updates to interdisciplinary team, as needed.
  • Educate patient support members about patient issues and interventions.
  • Refer for additional clinical services or to specialists, as needed.
  • Stay current on emerging issues in the profession.
  • Conduct scheduled face-to-face counseling sessions designed to assess and improve patients' emotional, mental, and behavioral health.
  • Coordinate and provide treatment for patients with severe and persistent mental illness in community settings.
  • Consult with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure treatment compliance.
  • Coordinate and provide treatment for patients requiring a higher level of care than outpatient therapy in residential settings.
