About The Position

Alterra Mountain Company has an Associate Attorney opportunity available in its in-house Legal & Social Responsibility Division. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, this generalist position would work as part of a team of nine attorneys, two paralegals, and other legal, risk, and Social Responsibility professionals and team members. The Associate Attorney position will be responsible for providing legal guidance to Alterra Mountain Company’s mountain destinations, as well as business divisions located in the Denver corporate office. The position provides exposure to multiple practice areas and the Associate Attorney position will be expected to complete a variety of different tasks in compressed timeframes each day. Daily responsibilities will include litigation management and pre-litigation dispute resolution, drafting and reviewing a high-volume of contracts and providing legal guidance and advice on a variety of different practice areas. The position is fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented and rewarding. The Associate Attorney must be able to work autonomously and self-management and accountability is an essential asset for this role.

Requirements

  • Member in good standing with the Colorado State Bar Association or other relevant State Bar Association.
  • 4-7 years of continuous experience as an attorney working at a top law firm, in-house, or preferably both, practicing in the areas of litigation, employment, commercial and/or corporate law.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
  • Undergraduate diploma or masters degree

Nice To Haves

  • Admission to California, Utah, Idaho, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington bars or admitted in any Canadian Provinces is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Litigation management and pre-litigation dispute resolution, primarily in the areas of employment, personal injury, insurance, and general commercial and corporate matters.
  • Coordinating litigation strategy with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to mitigate risk, control costs, and achieve favorable outcomes aligned with the company’s business objectives
  • Oversee discovery strategy and subpoena responses, including document preservation, collection, review, and production, in collaboration with internal teams and vendors.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, including sales, services, food and beverage, lodging, event, marketing, sponsorship, supply, equipment agreements, maintenance and service contracts
  • Advise on federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage and hour, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, leave and accommodations, hiring and separation, and employee relations
  • Collaborate with department colleagues and policy/subject-matter specialists on various legal, local/state government and regulatory issues
  • Work with legal, business and operations teams to improve internal processes and compliance, including developing internal policies regarding the same
  • Conduct research on a wide variety of issues
  • Other duties as assigned
