Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology
  • Microsoft Word experience required
  • Smokeball legal software experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, research, and administrative skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
  • Firm and client confidentiality required

Responsibilities

  • Gather medical evidence and records
  • Conduct depositions of the claimant, medical experts, and other parties
  • Conduct discovery
  • Perform legal research
  • Calculate benefits, including temporary and permanent benefits
  • Remain current with the developments in the law
  • Draft pleadings
  • Litigate cases before a workers' compensation judge or deputy
  • Represent the interests of the employer or insurance carrier at hearing, trial, mediations, depositions, oral arguments, and other proceedings
  • Communicate with claim representatives, counsel, medical staff, and court staff
  • Investigate accidents
  • Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability
  • Compile and submit reports as required by clients
  • Coordinate and attend claims reviews
  • Collaborate with others to resolve claims
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurance company and employer
