About The Position

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is hiring for an Associate Aerospace Technician (Fabrication Specialist- Level B). These positions are with the SLS Core Stage and are based at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA. Boeing and NASA are building the world's largest rocket for human exploration of deep space. The Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo beyond our moon and into deep space to enable diverse exploration, science and security missions. Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Willingness to work in variable shift; including days, evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Experience working in a dynamic and confined space for prolonged periods of time.
  • More than 1 year of experience or training in reading and interpreting drawings or blueprints.
  • More than 1 year of experience in aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with NASA Program and/or other aerospace customers.
  • Manufacturing experience in human spaceflight, spaceflight, or aircraft hardware.
  • Experience in installation and handling of tubes, valves, fittings.
  • Experience on human-rated spacecraft hardware.
  • Experience in a clean room environment.
  • Experience in Structural assembly with an emphasis on match drilling aluminum, titanium, and composite materials.
  • Experience with tubing and ducting installation.

Responsibilities

  • Performs machine set-up, machining, welding set-up, welding, sheet metal fabrication and extrusion, tube bending and fabrication tasks.
  • Performs composite lay-up, fabrication and assembly tasks.
  • Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components.
  • Assembles, repairs, modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains.
  • Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products.
  • Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products.
  • Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests.
  • Performs basic organic chemical conversion and paint preparation.
  • Applies routine organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements.
  • Works on articles of limited complexity following established drawings and requirements.
