About The Position

TCOM, L.P., headquartered in Columbia, Maryland, has been a global leader in lighter‑than‑air technology for more than five decades. The company continues to advance the state of the art in tethered aerostat systems and, due to sustained business growth and recent contract awards, is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Associate Aerospace Engineer to join its engineering team. Position Summary The Associate Aerospace Engineer will contribute to the design and development of, but not limited to, lighter‑than‑air systems, including aerostats, airships, and airborne structures. Responsibilities span the full engineering lifecycle—from preliminary design through first‑article testing—and require close collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, in a related field.
  • Relevant coursework or experience in aircraft structural analysis and design; additional related experience is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in solid modeling tools and FEA methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn specialized concepts quickly and work effectively across multiple programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Familiarity with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, analysis, and integration of lighter‑than‑air platforms and airborne structures.
  • Participate in engineering activities from conceptual development through testing and evaluation.
  • Develop proficiency in non‑rigid envelope design, including the use of advanced laminated flexible materials and the principles of lighter‑than‑air flight operations.
  • Perform solid modeling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to support structural design and verification.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design documentation, and formal design reviews.
  • Contribute to multiple concurrent programs and support engineering tasks across the full aircraft system.
  • Travel as required to TCOM’s production and test facility in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
  • Perform work in environments that may involve heights or confined spaces.
