About The Position

The Associate AD for Broadcast Engineering leads all technical and engineering operations for Baylor Athletics live broadcasts and in-venue shows, supporting more than 120+ annual productions across linear and digital platforms. This highly technical leadership position directly supports departmental revenue generation by ensuring Baylor Athletics meets and exceeds the production standards required by national television partners and conference media agreements. The role oversees control room systems, broadcast infrastructure, technical personnel, and vendor relationships while working in close collaboration with the Assistant AD for BaylorVision to deliver a seamless, unified in-venue and broadcast experience. Serving as the lead engineer for Baylor Athletics, this position requires advanced technical expertise, strategic leadership, and the ability to execute at a high level in fast-paced live production environments. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Production, Communications, or related field required (experience may be considered in lieu of degree).
  • 5+ years of experience in live broadcast production or control room operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Evertz, Dante, SMPTE 2110, HDR, Dolby 5.1, and related production systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing personnel and live event execution.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, live environments while maintaining a professional work culture.

Responsibilities

  • Broadcast Operations & Conference Television Integration Support all ESPN+, Big 12 Conference, and national linear broadcast productions, ensuring technical excellence and consistency across Baylor Athletics events.
  • Serve as lead broadcast and network systems engineer, maintaining production standards and operational continuity in alignment with conference and network requirements.
  • Work directly with Big 12 Conference television partners including ESPN, FOX Sports, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, and Turner Sports to meet technical specifications, transmission standards, and broadcast workflows.
  • Partner with network and conference production teams on site surveys, REMI integrations, transmission testing, and game-day coordination to ensure successful national telecasts.
  • Partner with the Assistant AD for BaylorVision to coordinate shared staffing, equipment allocation, scheduling, and production logistics for game-day execution.
  • Foster a culture of creativity and innovation focused on continuous improvement in live production quality.
  • Oversee daily operations and reliability of all Baylor Athletics control rooms within the SMPTE 2110 IP environment.
  • Ensure optimal performance of technical infrastructure, including network systems, switchers, routers, replay systems, graphics engines, and intercom platforms.
  • In partnership with the Assistant AD for BaylorVision, lead strategic coordination with Daktronics and Ross Video for video board systems, show control, ribbon boards, and LED technologies.
  • Oversee diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs for video board and control room systems to minimize downtime during events and ensure fulfillment of Playfly sponsorship inventory and contractual media elements.
  • Plan and implement long-term technology upgrades in collaboration with ITS, Event Management and Facilities, and vendors such as Evertz, Grass Valley, and Calrec.
  • Manage setup for in-venue and live broadcasts, including cameras, audio, graphics, and transmission workflows.
  • Ensure broadcast and in-venue platforms operate seamlessly together to enhance fan experience and contractual media deliverables.
  • Supervise broadcast engineering contractors and students; support producers, directors, on-air talent, and technical crews with mentorship and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant AD for BaylorVision to enhance the student broadcast program through training, hands-on experience, and career preparation initiatives.
  • Promote cross-training and alignment with the Branding and Creative Services team to maximize efficiency and consistency in production standards.
  • Partner with Assistant AD for BaylorVision on capital planning and technology expenditures that support revenue-generating broadcast initiatives and enhance in-venue fan experience, including video board modernization, control room upgrades, and LED display investments.
  • Maintain service agreements with external broadcast partners and vendors; oversee equipment tracking, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Collaborate on budget planning, crew scheduling, purchasing, and vendor management for shared systems and resources.
  • Serve as primary technical liaison for network partners, visiting production units, and conference media representatives.
