About The Position

DTSC's Mission is to protect California's people, communities, and environment from toxic substances, to enhance economic vitality by restoring contaminated land, and to compel manufacturers to make safer consumer products. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual, who is passionate about learning and contributing to DTSC mission. Under the general supervision of Accounting Administrator II, Chief of the Collections and Resolution Unit, the Associate Accounting Analyst is responsible for independently analyzing complex financial documentation and reporting findings in support of DTSC's enforcement and cost recovery actions. As an Associate Accounting Analyst you will have the opportunity to: Prepare and conduct audit reviews of assets, liabilities, ownership equity, income and expenses as reported on financial statements, income tax returns and bank statements, by utilizing generally accepted accounting and auditing principles Plan the scope of the audits by identifying possible problem areas and determining the extent of testing required Review the financial documents such as tax returns, statement of asset & liabilities, income statements and bank statements to identify whether the entity or entities can or cannot pay the amounts owed and provide the recommendations to the supervisor Prepare detailed working reports that include but are not limited to: items examined and referenced documents Conduct collection activities on delinquent penalties assessed by the department, including contacting businesses to collect outstanding payments and negotiating payment plans Conduct a review of relevant agreements, Health and Safety Code, and Department policies relating to the collection activities to ensure DTSC adheres to and follows the policy and procedures

Responsibilities
