About the position

Responsible for directing and overseeing financial strategies and activities of the Infrastructure Midwest Region within the Clean Energy and Infrastructure Segment at Mastec. Includes preparation of current financial reports as well as summaries and forecast for future business growth for the company and its related group of companies. Serve as the Finance business partner for the SVP of Infrastructure Midwest group and the representative of finance on the Infrastructure Midwest Leadership team. Serve as senior level mentor for accounting/finance efforts across the Infrastructure Midwest business. Responsible for the efficiency and accuracy as well as process improvements that will support the growth of the Infrastructure Midwest group and Mastec Clean Energy. Ideally this position will be located onsite or close to our William Charles headquarters office in Rockford, Illinois. However, for the right candidate, this role can be located onsite, hybrid, or remote with frequent travel to the headquarters office. This role is eligible for an annual incentive plan and vehicle allowance. Relocation may be available based on identified candidate if you'd prefer to relocate to the Rockford area.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the accounting and finance functions and strategy of the assigned company(ies) within Mastec
  • Assist the Segment CFO and Infrastructure Midwest SVP in formulating the company's strategic direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Act as the Finance Business Partner to the SVP of Infrastructure Midwest
  • Support the Operational Leadership team in driving commercial outcomes
  • Develop financial and tax strategies
  • Coordinate month end closings with operations to ensure timely preparation and issuance of monthly reporting packages to corporate parent
  • Preparation of month end, quarter end and year end work papers and variance analysis
  • Coordinate audits with internal and external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures, including Sarbanes-Oxley controls
  • Present monthly financial performance to Executive management
  • Review and approve accounting transactions on a daily basis
  • Expert understanding of Construction accounting and revenue recognition
  • Lead the monthly forecasts and annual budgeting process
  • Must proactively face challenges and provide solutions
  • Ability to work long hours when warranted
  • Assistance with other corporate projects as needed
  • Manage Finance leaders responsible for General Accounting, Project Accounting, Accounts Payable and Receivable, and Payroll
  • Appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, address complaints and resolve problems
  • Assist in hiring, coaching and developing estimating professionals across the sector
  • Evaluate and recommend solutions for a more efficient and streamlined process in all accounting areas
  • Lead as a change agent through major change programs (ERP etc.)
  • Partner with Operational Vice Presidents to assess current processes, drive consistency in approach, tools, and vision across Mastec Clean Energy
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of risk profile
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations

Requirements

  • 10-15 years' experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience as Corporate Controller, subsidiary controller as part of a large company or equivalent, with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls experience
  • Experience with construction accounting and systems is required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • CPA certification required
