About The Position

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Associate Director leads a team accountable for providing and managing an efficient and effective health, safety and environmental management system for our Company Animal Health Technology Solution (AHTS) sites in the Americas Region. This position will have two direct reports and be responsible for nine sites. The Associate Director influences AHTS site leadership ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, policies, and procedures related to EHS as well as industry best practices. This position is also accountable for supporting the integration of EHS performance objectives into standard work processes, and developing strategies to achieve EHS objectives in alignment with organization business goals and values. The Associate Director of EHS for the Americas AHTS sites sits within the Global Safety & Environment organization, and reports to the Director of Safety & Environment of Animal Health for Americas Region. The successful candidate would preferably be located at the Rahway, NJ site but may be located at any US location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, Physical Science or related technical discipline required.
  • 7+ years of progressive EHS experience.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites across the Americas Region as required (travel up to 20%).
  • Strong project management skills, supporting multiple activities/projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with EHS regulatory agencies and corporate support functions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for EHS matters within the AHTS Americas Region, coordinating with operational leadership, site managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Exercise a high degree of independence, leading and guiding a small team of EHS professionals, ensuring effective collaboration and communication amongst team members.
  • Plan, develop, and support implementation of EHS programs for multiple sites to assure continuous compliance with local, state and federal legislation, Company standards and industry best practices.
  • Serve as interface with local governmental EHS agencies and insurance carriers.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental licenses and permits at AHTS sites.
  • Clearly and concisely communicate complex technical and regulatory information to senior level leaders.
  • Oversee the investigation of EHS incidents, including accidents and near misses, and ensure proper reporting and effective corrective and preventive action plans; regularly monitor and evaluate effectiveness of mitigation efforts.
  • Strong leadership in setting direction and expectations for EHS programs to capital project teams.
  • Oversee change management processes for EHS initiatives, ensuring major transitions are effectively planned and executed to maintain continuous compliance with applicable regulations and organizational standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement focused on both approaches and outcomes.
  • Manage budgetary & capital needs to support EHS initiatives, projects and programs.
  • Track and support the completion of required reports to site, divisional and/or corporate management and regulatory agencies.
