About The Position

The Assistive Technologist is responsible for providing technical support and consultation related to assistive technology for individuals with disabilities, professionals, and community partners. This position plays a key role in helping consumers, families, schools, employers, and agencies identify and access technology solutions that promote independence, accessibility, and inclusion. This role includes demonstrating devices, managing device loans, delivering training, conducting assessments, facilitating train-the-trainer sessions, and offering technical assistance and consultative services. Services may be offered on both a complimentary, and fee-based basis. The position also involves overseeing the equipment loan program. This position is based in Raleigh (Wake County) and provides direct service delivery across Raleigh and surrounding counties. The Assistive Technologist collaborates closely with North Carolina Assistive Technology Program (NCATP) staff statewide, as well as Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities (EIPD) counselors and Raleigh office staff, to provide comprehensive assistive technology services across multiple Central NC counties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience working with assistive technology that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to operate a computer and computer software, as well as create spreadsheets and power point presentations.
  • Ability to enter data into developed data collection system.
  • Lifting up to 40 lbs occasionally.
  • Routine travel across the central portion of the state and occasionally across the state as needed.
  • Position is funded in part through federal funds.
  • Position is eligible for a hybrid-teleworking schedule to include weekly onsite work hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Broad knowledge of assistive technology, including devices, services, resources that support individuals with disabilities and/or medical limitations. Also, broad knowledge of 3D Printing software and printers, and Reuse/Exchange.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including individuals, programs, and agencies, communicating effectively orally and in writing with people with disabilities, families, staff, and other professionals.
  • Experienced troubleshooting problems, developing and implementing effective planning strategies, and providing technical assistance across a variety of settings.
  • Experience working independently and adapting to different environments while maintaining a high level of professionalism and service quality.
