The Assistant, Youth Programs at Jazz at Lincoln Center plays a crucial role in supporting the Youth Programs Director in delivering high-quality jazz education to middle and high school students. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about jazz education and are eager to contribute to the development of young musicians. The Assistant will be involved in various aspects of the Youth Programs, which include the Middle School Jazz Academy, High School Jazz Academy, and Summer Jazz Academy. These programs encompass a comprehensive curriculum that combines music lessons, ensemble rehearsals, summer camps, performances, and broader youth development initiatives. The curriculum emphasizes skills-based learning alongside aesthetic education, fostering creativity, self-discovery, and group collaboration among students. The Assistant will be responsible for a range of tasks that support the smooth operation of the Youth Programs. This includes communication with site coordinators, generating materials for band directors and families, drafting contracts for guest musicians, and securing rehearsal spaces. The role also involves making site visits to various locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, as well as attending planning and professional development meetings. Participation in the student audition process may also be required. The ideal candidate will be a current college or graduate student in jazz performance or music education, with excellent instrumental skills and a strong commitment to youth development through jazz education.
