About The Position

The Assistant Youth Camp Counselor supports camp leaders in creating a safe, active, and positive environment for campers. This role helps facilitate daily recreational activities, games, and crafts, while ensuring campers are engaged and included. The Assistant Counselor works closely with the Lead Counselor to supervise groups, encourage participation, and model respectful behavior. Responsibilities include assisting with camp setup and cleanup each day, preparing materials for activities, and helping with transitions throughout the schedule. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, dependable, and enjoy working with children in an outdoor, team-based setting. This position reports to the Director of Member Services. Sometimes, this position will require answering phone calls and respond to email requests from members, guests, and co-workers. This person must communicate and present themselves in a professional manner. The Youth Camp Counselor must be dependable and reliable; attendance on each scheduled shift is expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to develop and maintain communications and relationships with parents and their children as it relates to the youth camp program.
  • Knowledge of outdoor activities, i.e., camping, hiking, biking, canoeing, or caving.
  • Ability to demonstrate positivity, patience, organization, and effective communication.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities and to work independently.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain personal hygiene.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse groups of individuals and age ranges.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a highly fluid and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work with a team and interact with others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of Stock Farm Club and member and guest information.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and image of the Stock Farm Club.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass background checks and motor vehicle record checks.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license in accordance with the laws of the State of Montana; must be insurable under the company’s auto insurance policy.
  • Must be able to work variable schedule or irregular hours to include last minute scheduling needs/changes and working split shifts based on needs of the Club operations and scheduled events.
  • Must be able to work holidays, weekday, weekend, and evening/late evening hours as required.
  • Ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions as needed and to walk on uneven ground.
  • Ability to perform same-day travel on Stock Farm Property and within local geographic region.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 6 months proven experience as youth camp counselor, childcare/early education provider, parks & recreation counselor, or similar role.
  • Experience as youth camp counselor, summer camp counselor, or similar role working with children under the age of 18.
  • Prior successful employment with the Stock Farm Club in this or a related position.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and communicate with parents in a professional manner.
  • Maintain oversight and supervision of campers/youth attendees, ensuring appropriate use of equipment and materials, and that safety and safety protocols are observed for the given activities.
  • Lead recreational and educational activities (such as swimming, crafting, biking, hiking, etc.).
  • Provide knowledge and learning experiences for campers through games and explorations.
  • Supervise activities, swimming, games, crafts, etc. as scheduled and during rest periods or down time.
  • Chaperone and or transport kids to each location as appropriate/authorized.
  • Assist campers as needed in visiting/locating restrooms.
  • Assists in organizing, setting up, and closing down camp activities on a daily basis (such as setting up and putting away chairs, tables, pop-up tents each day)
  • Assist with distributing meals and snacks.
  • Set-up/tear-down of all activities and equipment for given activity; ensure cleanup of all activity sites is completed.
  • Ensure any location that camp is located is clean daily and that campers don’t litter in recreational areas or within nature.
  • Occasionally assist with running and planning activities at Family Nights and Stock Farm Kids Camp Extended.
  • Ensure sunscreen is applied to campers daily, every two hours.
  • Assist the Lead Counselor in creating weekly or daily schedules considering campers’ ages and interests.
  • Assist in planning outdoor activities or sports for groups of campers.
  • Maintain camp schedule, ensuring campers are at the correct locations on time.
  • Ensure availability of a handwashing station (fixed or portable) for daily activities.
  • Apply hand sanitizer after activities and or as needed throughout the day.
  • Maintain knowledge of all campers’ allergies.
  • Communicate regularly on shortages of inventory on snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, etc.
  • Assist in resolving conflicts between campers, providing guidance on acceptable behavior.
  • Escalate any continued or repeated behavioral concerns to the Director of Member Services for appropriate action.
  • Actively maintain daily check-in/check-out information for each camper.
  • Perform basic first aid as needed; seek emergency or professional care as appropriate and notify the Director of Member Services of need for these services.
  • Keep accurate incident logs with the Lead Youth Camp Counselor; provide reports/logs to Director of Member Services on regular schedule, identifying any concerns that may need to be addressed with parents.
  • May assist with maintaining and updating camp registration forms.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
