About The Position

The Assistant Wardrobe Supervisor’s primary responsibility is supporting the Wardrobe Supervisor in the planning, preparation, and facilitation of all wardrobe and costuming elements of Festival programming in the Ted Shawn Theatre (TST), Doris Duke Theatre (DDT), and Henry J. Leir Stage. During the pre-season they assist the Wardrobe Supervisor and Wardrobe Technicians in setting up and organizing all dressing rooms, wardrobe rooms, and wardrobe equipment. During the Festival they support the Wardrobe Engineers during company load-ins, changeovers and technical rehearsals. They will be assigned to run crews for productions with advanced wardrobe requirements or to sub for Wardrobe Technicians.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional related theatrical wardrobe or costume shop experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with theatrical wardrobe facilities, equipment and standard operating procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with Google App suite.
  • Basic sewing skills and the ability to repair costumes.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work proactively, creatively, flexibly, kindly, safely, and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a performing arts educational environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in dance production.
  • Experience working outdoors or in non-traditional venues.
  • Understanding of and experience with spatial sound systems and equipment.
  • Experience supervising and managing staff and/or equipment.
  • Experience working on productions that incorporate robotics, motion capture technologies and extended reality technologies such as augmented reality or virtual reality.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the creation of an accessible and collaborative work environment that enables artists and technicians to create together positively and safely.
  • Assist the Wardrobe Supervisor in maintaining detailed and clear paperwork.
  • Join advancing and show specific production meetings as needed.
  • Actively participate in work calls, notes sessions, technical rehearsals, performances, and changeovers.
  • Work as a member of the run crew supporting the Wardrobe Technicians.
  • Assist the Wardrobe Supervisor and Wardrobe Technicians in creating labor plans for changeovers and company load-ins.
  • Assist the Wardrobe Supervisor and Wardrobe Technicians in maintaining equipment, supplies, and facilities.
  • Manage wardrobe calls as needed and assigned by the Wardrobe Supervisor.
  • Assist in the implementation of the weather plan for HJL and other outdoor programming.
  • Attend all organizational, departmental and production meetings including a weekly All-Staff Meeting.
  • Under the general direction of the DoTP, assist with coordination of emergency response for staff and patrons in the event of an emergency or extreme weather.
  • Complete Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, and Cultural Competence Training (provided to all seasonal staff during the pre-season)
  • Assist and support other departments, including non-production departments, as needed on use of wardrobe equipment or facilities.
