About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Water. This position will be located out of our Portland, OR office. WSP USA Operates with a Hybrid-Workplace Model. Be involved in projects with our Northwest Pacific Water Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. Your primary role will be to lead project planning and execution, making key decisions that will drive future ready infrastructure solutions for our clients on our water infrastructure projects. You will collaborate with our dedicated, local design teams, while being supported by our international expertise. You’ll work with water, roadway, geotechnical, tunneling and transportation engineers, and environmental and permitting experts. You excel at building relationships with our clients, becoming their trusted partner. Our water team is growing, and in this role, you will also help shape the future of our team through team leadership and business development activities. You will identify potential clients, project opportunities and support pursuits, including development of proposals. Your voice will help lead our team to grow to the next level. You will also have the opportunity to manage team members, supporting their career development and providing professional mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage resources, and foster collaboration among stakeholders, subcontractors and team members.
  • Proficient knowledge of water engineering principles, practices and methods and their application to project work.
  • Well-defined knowledge of water systems planning, design, engineering, cost estimating, and project management.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Work independently with minimal oversight and provide guidance and leadership to junior to mid-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from data, arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform project management and professional engineering relating to drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects for our water clients in the Oregon area.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams, including a variety of specialty subconsultants, to execute projects including managing scope, schedule, and budgets, while building client and team relationships.
  • Coordinate, review and approval of infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
  • Be a people leader for water engineers in the Portland office, providing leadership, career development support and professional mentorship.
  • Support business development activities by identifying clients and projects, and support pursuit activities, including client meetings, proposal development and interviewing.
  • Be active in local professional organizations and remain current in latest water engineering techniques.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
