About The Position

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Programs provides senior-level leadership and coordination across EO’s programmatic priorities. The AVP ensures program excellence, cross-team collaboration, and alignment with EO’s mission. The AVP serves as a key deputy to the VP of Programs, helping EO strengthen its external presence while ensuring programs operate smoothly and effectively. The AVP provides leadership and oversight for program performance, ensuring all initiatives meet established metrics, deliverables, and outcomes. Maintaining active awareness of program budgets, compliance processes, and data reporting across a diverse portfolio of federal, state, private, and community investments, the AVP ensures alignment across divisions and supports timely, accurate communication between program staff and executive leadership. With extensive experience in grant management, budget administration, and staff supervision, the AVP promotes strong coordination across teams to ensure all program activities align with EO’s strategic priorities, funder expectations, and evaluation frameworks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, education, or a related field.
  • Proven record of success in program oversight, compliance, grant management, and organizational growth.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit, education, workforce, or community development organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising managers or directors and leading cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily communication and decision-making within the Programs Division, ensuring priorities are clearly defined and acted upon.
  • Partner with the Research and Compliance teams to maintain accountability, reporting, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Track initiatives, shape agendas, and ensure follow-through on action steps across programs.
  • Mentor and coach directors to develop leadership capacity, strengthen succession planning, and foster a collaborative and innovative organizational culture.
  • Monitor the overall budget for the Programs Division in close coordination with the Vice President of Programs.
  • Ensure directors and senior directors maintain compliance with funder requirements and internal financial procedures.
  • Review financial and program reports to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide the Vice President of Programs with clear budgetary updates and recommendations that inform strategic decision-making.
  • Use financial and program data to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for greater efficiency.
  • Maintain positive working relationship with funders and assist the President and CEO, VP of Programs, the Program division, and the Development division to prepare for compliance site visits.
  • Oversee cross-functional internal grant orientation process to ensure successful execution of grant awards.
