About The Position

The Assistant VP is a dynamic and strategic leader for the campus. The Assistant VP must possess an understanding of best practices in human resources. The Assistant VP should be a thought leader and capable of innovative, creative solutions in working strategically with faculty, staff, and students. The emphasis on providing leadership in human resources and strengthening systems and structures will be a priority for the Assistant VP.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of related experience.

  • A master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of related experience.
  • Demonstrate strengths in communication skills; collaboration, diplomacy, and the ability to build consensus and work with multiple constituencies; ability to work with a wide range of employees including faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

  • Strong background in leading a human resources unit
  • Assess the current system to determine needed refinements and adjustments to maintain current best practices and standards for compliance and service.
  • Must be politically savvy and able to coordinate services and collaborations across institutional units and with various employee classifications/types.
  • Strong communication delivery experience that will create an open and transparent environment for HR policy and process education to all employees.
  • Collaborate and harness and direct a team that works seamlessly with each other and with others throughout the institution.
  • Knowledgeable and forward-thinking who can review salary structures and develop a plan for the institution to address salary increases and bonuses.
  • Strong business and financial skills.
  • Development of consistent hiring and onboarding practices.
  • Create a plan to recruit and retain a more dynamic workforce.
  • Lead a talent recruitment and retention plan.
  • Review student employment processes.
  • Review benefits for all classifications of employees.
  • Review employee training and rebuild areas to include professional development, mentorship, and performance issues improvement.
  • Establish employee wellness initiatives; negotiation skills with union representatives; successfully navigate through difficult situations to identify positive outcomes.
  • Strong expertise in HR practices related to job duties and relevant laws, including federal and state regulations related to employment and immigration.
  • Team and trust-building with human resources staff.
  • Review and clarify the policies and process guidelines.
  • Forecast and guide using Strategic Planning for Human Resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.
