About The Position

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Facility Management Services is responsible for providing facility management related strategic direction and oversight for all acute care facilities and ambulatory surgery centers. Primary responsibilities include development, implementation and oversight of facility management policies, standardized procedures/practices, operational efficiencies such as the shared service program, programmatic staffing models, technical engineering guidance and capital reinvestment strategies for more than ninety acute care facilities, their associated free-standing emergency departments and over one hundred and forty ambulatory surgery centers. This position will have budget responsibility exceeding 500 million for all operational and reinvestment programs within the assigned group(s). The AVP will lead a team of Regional and Divisional AVPs and Directors of Facility Management and the Ambulatory Surgery Division Engineering Director to ensure implementation of strategic plans to drive the success of facility operations across the enterprise. Their work will directly affect 1,000+ employees under the AVP's organizational umbrella. The AVP will make regular visits to facilities within their assigned group to gauge the performance of programs and policies that have been put in place. They will work through the Regional and Divisional Directors of Facility Management to implement any improvements deemed necessary and will constantly reevaluate those programs and policies based upon the real-life feedback and observations in the field. Regular, clear and concise, communication with Group and Division level executive teams regarding operational KPI's, infrastructure planning and any short- and long-term operational risks that require executive leadership support will be required. The AVP of Facility Management Services is ultimately responsible for facility management within the designated group(s) including the appropriate facility staff, support staff and facility management budgets at each individual facility as well as the long-term capital reinvestment planning and risk avoidance for those same facilities. The ideal candidate will have an extensive knowledge of the planning and budgetary requirements to maintain, repair and operate acute care facilities. They will have the ability to lead a large and diverse group of teams and be efficient in relaying pertinent information to people with differing levels of technical and operational experience. They should possess a deep understanding of facility infrastructure design and operation.

Requirements

  • Four year (Bachelor) degree in engineering required; Mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
  • Master's degree in business administration or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum seven (7) years' experience in a leadership role involving the design and construction of acute care hospitals and/or operation of an acute care hospital system.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer, Certified Healthcare Facility Manager and/or Certified Healthcare Engineer are preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

  • Provide facility management related strategic direction and oversight for all acute care facilities and ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Develop, implement and oversee facility management policies and standardized procedures/practices.
  • Ensure operational efficiencies such as the shared service program and programmatic staffing models.
  • Lead a team of Regional and Divisional AVPs and Directors of Facility Management.
  • Make regular visits to facilities to gauge performance of programs and policies.
  • Communicate with Group and Division level executive teams regarding operational KPIs and infrastructure planning.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory programs involving life safety and environment of care.
  • Develop policy and standards utilizing knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to correct infrastructure operability problems.
  • Monitor the condition assessment database for all assets in the CMMS system.
  • Serve facility administrative teams and staff to maximize the hospital staff's ability to focus on patient care.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of plans, policies and strategic direction impacting facility management employees.
  • Manage the operational budget of the facility management departments.
