About The Position

M&J Engineering, P.C. is a quality provider of multi-discipline consulting services with over 300 employees. Since its inception in 2004, M&J has grown into diversified provider of engineering, construction management, construction inspection, technology, and environmental services to a broad range of clients, including federal, state and city/local agencies, private owners, architects, engineers and contractors. M&J Engineering is a leader in construction management and inspection, ITS, mechanical, electrical, wastewater, water supply, tunnel airport, port, marine/coastal, environmental engineering, and design-build services for both new infrastructure projects and renovations. The Assistant Vice President oversees and directs construction management and civil engineering design teams at M&J. This leadership role ensures timely project completion, adherence to design requirements, and alignment with company standards. The position reports to the Senior Vice President or designated supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in engineering management or project leadership and 20 years of experience in the civil engineering/construction management industry.
  • Proven experience working with Massachusetts agencies such as MassDOT, MBTA, or Massport.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, teams, and complex projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Experience in business development and client relationship management.
  • Familiarity with City of Boston, and City of Cambridge procurement processes.
  • Experience mentoring engineering professionals and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of federal and state transportation and infrastructure regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and generate business with major state agencies and municipalities in Massachusetts (e.g., MassDOT, MBTA, Massport, MWRA, City of Boston, City of Cambridge).
  • Lead and support engineering teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Manage all future work in Massachusetts, including budgeting and strategic planning.
  • Allocate resources to support operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and conduct regular audits.
  • Communicate planning objectives and results to senior management.
  • Conduct market research and identify growth opportunities.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships and lead initiatives to expand market share.
  • Oversee recruitment, daily workflow, and project plan approvals.
  • Ensure projects are completed within budget and efficiently.
  • Establish and implement strategic direction for engineering and development.
  • Align departmental actions with M&J’s business plan and vision.
  • Implement engineering policies, standards, and security measures.
  • Negotiate contracts and coordinate contractor work.
  • Mentor mid-level directors and managers across engineering and operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
