About The Position

The U.S. Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division's Affirmative Civil Enforcement Unit. This role involves handling enforcement investigations and litigation related to various forms of fraud, civil rights enforcement, and other significant legal matters. The position is based in Sacramento and requires collaboration with other attorneys and support staff, with responsibilities increasing in complexity as the attorney gains experience.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Possess a J.D. degree and be an active member of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • At least one year of post-J.D. experience required.
  • Must reside in the district or within 25 miles of it.
  • Satisfactory preemployment adjudication including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of experience litigating cases with substantial responsibility for discovery, trial, and appeals.
  • Quick analytical ability and the capacity to articulate critical issues in a case.
  • Superior oral and writing skills, strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment.
  • Experience with multi-agency task forces and federal grand jury practice.
  • Familiarity with investigatory techniques such as electronic surveillance and asset seizure.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct enforcement investigations and litigation involving healthcare fraud, procurement fraud, grant fraud, financial fraud, pharmaceutical diversion, wildfire recovery actions, and civil rights enforcement.
  • Collaborate with other Assistant U.S. Attorneys in Sacramento and Fresno.
  • Prepare legal documents and conduct legal research and writing.
  • Manage cases from the initial investigative stage through trial.
