The Assistant Unit Manager (AUM) is responsible for organizing and directing the delivery of Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living services in the Charlotte Unit Office, which serves Mecklenburg County and surrounding areas. This role involves providing leadership, daily supervision, and training for Independent Living staff, as well as ensuring quality service delivery during caseload vacancies. The AUM will also manage administrative components of the rehabilitation program and serve as acting Unit Manager when needed.

  • Coordinate the Independent Living Program and provide leadership to IL staff.
  • Supervise and train casework staff, ensuring quality service delivery.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the technical and administrative components of the rehabilitation program.
  • Manage personnel administration and staff development/training.
  • Coordinate the Unit's safety and health measures.
  • Act as the Unit Manager in their absence.
  • Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or counseling from an accredited institution and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor.
  • Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the CRCC and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws governing rehabilitation services.
  • Experience working with inexperienced counselors and support staff.
