About The Position

Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks in assisting with the day to day operations and planning of Bald Head Island Transportation Inc., such as managing, scheduling, and dispatching of ferry vessels, dock operations, luggage handling, tram operations, budget development and tracking, staff training and professional activities according to approved Customer Service standards and company policies. Assists with developing plans, implementing policies and solutions to address both current and future operational requirements. Performs a management service under Bald Head Island Limited for parking and barge operations. Reports to the Transportation Manager.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a two year college with a degree in operations, management, or a related area.
  • Three years of experience in marine operations and maintenance, transporting passengers and baggage handling.
  • At least one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, evaluate, and coach personnel in all areas of responsibility.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate required training for staff in all safety, operational, and compliance areas.
  • Schedule department personnel efficiently to accommodate passenger and baggage demands.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with personnel from other departments.
  • Respond to questions, comments, or problems from various stakeholders.
  • Inspect equipment and grounds to ensure safety and initiate repairs as necessary.
  • Ensure documentation required by regulating agencies is accurately maintained.
  • Formulate and provide input to the preparation of operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor costs and recommend saving opportunities to keep budgets in line.
  • Interact with Accounting and IT Departments for revenue and expense reconciliation.
  • Serve as Terminal Manager and Facility Security Officer for the Transportation Terminal.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of captains and crew for ferry operations.
  • Develop safety procedures and identify training needs in liaison with other Assistant Transportation Managers.
  • Manage all parking operations at Deep Point, ensuring revenue capture.
  • Compile parking reports and monitor the annual parking renewal process.
  • Plan, direct, and organize activities in the Island Transportation Department.
  • Establish relationships with outside vendors and contractors for maintenance.
