About The Position

The Assistant Track Coach position at Hilltop Middle School is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and organization for the track program. The coach will work under the direction of the Athletic Director and the building principal, ensuring that all activities comply with WIAA, school, and state rules and regulations. This role involves maintaining communication with students, parents, and staff, as well as overseeing the safety and effectiveness of practices and competitions. The position requires a commitment to the athletic program and the development of student-athletes both on and off the field.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with WIAA, school, and state rules and regulations.
  • Ability to provide leadership and supervision for the track program.
  • Strong communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
  • Knowledge of athletic training and injury prevention.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard in academics during the sport season.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coaching track or similar sports.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
  • Previous experience in a school athletic program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate inventories and arrange for proper issuance and cleaning of equipment.
  • Maintain facilities in a usable and safe manner.
  • Set up well-organized practice schedules and ensure staff and participants are well-informed.
  • Maintain effective communication with coaching staff, students, parents, school staff, and media.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to the district Athletic Handbook and school athletic philosophy and policies.
  • Supervise assistant coaches and ensure they are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Supervise athletes regarding practice and game responsibilities, rules, strategy, and goals.
  • Demonstrate and teach necessary skills for athlete success.
  • Take necessary steps to prevent injuries and maintain trained assistants for injury care.
  • Demonstrate self-control and poise at practices and games.
  • Maintain high academic standards during the sport season.
  • Support the athletic program by encouraging participation in all sports and attending other athletic events.
  • Prepare and submit a budget to support the athletic program.
  • Ensure teams represent the school with conduct and appearance beyond reproach.
  • Instill a successful playing style and attitude in teams.
  • Emphasize good scholarship and citizenship among athletes.
  • Represent the team and school professionally and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Hold a current first aid card and practice appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required by the position or directed by the supervisor.
