About The Position

As the Assistant to the Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), you will provide broad and confidential administrative support to the Dean’s Office. You will develop a strong understanding of the College’s academic departments and maintain effective relationships with key faculty and staff. As the primary point of contact for both internal and external constituents, you will exercise independent judgment grounded through knowledge of the College and University policies and procedures to perform a range of high-level administrative activities for the Dean’s leadership team, including Chairs, Directors, and Associate Deans. In this role, you will be responsible for building trust, facilitating communication, and elevating departmental concerns as appropriate. This includes managing a variety of administrative, fiscal, staff support, and special projects responsibilities and working proactively to remove obstacles that hinder the College’s success and upholds its core mission of supporting academic departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or other relevant field AND five (5) years of managing administrative support experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience providing executive level support to a Dean, department chair, school director, or equivalent.
  • Demonstration of strong organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills (both verbal and written)
  • Experience in maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to function positively, under pressure in a fast-paced professional environment, while managing interruptions, meeting deadlines and providing high quality service to all constituents.
  • Demonstrated effective supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency using MS Office programs or equivalent

  • Experience working in a professional higher education administrative environment.
  • Experience working with WSU policies, procedures, and systems including Workday.
