About The Position

Join Our Team as an Assistant Tennis Professional! Are you passionate about tennis and eager to share your skills with others? The YMCA of Greater Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Assistant Tennis Professional to join our dynamic team. This certified position plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional tennis programs and experiences for our members. Position Overview: The Assistant Tennis Professional will work closely with the Director of Tennis to coordinate and execute a variety of tennis programs, including clinics, group lessons, junior development, and more. This role also supports administrative tasks, league management, tournaments, and special events as needed.

Requirements

  • USPTA/PTR certification and Youth Tennis Certification required.
  • Associate or BS Degree required
  • NTRP 4.5+ or UTR 8.0+
  • Demonstrated career growth in tennis instruction and program leadership.
  • Professional appearance, conflict resolution skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends; minimum age of 18.
  • Must meet physical requirements to lift up to 80 pounds and work evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency in tennis instruction, playing, business operations, and customer service.
  • Strong team orientation with a focus on quality and member satisfaction.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic, able to work independently with effective planning skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with members, industry peers, and the community.
  • High physical endurance and ability to lift up to 80 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • collegiate playing experience preferred.
  • experience in high-performance programs a plus.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred; collegiate/professional playing experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and implement comprehensive teaching programs across all skill levels.
  • Recommend and evaluate new tennis programs to enhance member engagement and retention.
  • Conduct group and private lessons, ensuring a safe and educational environment.
  • Participate in member play sessions and support special events and tournaments.
  • Allocate 10 hours per week to administrative duties and court maintenance.
  • Model YMCA core values and collaborate closely with the Head Tennis Professional.
  • Coach, teach, and supervise participants, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
  • Maintain accurate records, report incidents promptly, and participate in staff activities.
  • Assist with tennis desk operations, maintenance, and marketing initiatives.
  • Serve as manager on duty as needed.
