WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Technician, Design Support for our Fort Worth, Texas office. This Opportunity The Assistant Technician, Design Support will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with WSP's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain WSP's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions. The position entails drafting and design opportunities on substation projects that include physical and civil layout drawings as well as schematics and wiring diagrams. The successful candidate will be responsible for learning, understanding, and implementing CAD knowledge; learning client standards, practices, and procedures to ensure that work produced conforms to the client's standards and expectations; being responsible for knowing and following WSP's standards, procedures, and processes; collaborating on design issues; and seeking guidance from those with more experience

Requirements

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Associates/technical degree in an accredited drafting program, or sufficient industry experience
  • 1-3 years of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with other team members
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • Drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, preferably in an engineering work environment
  • Experience with a 3D CAD system
  • Knowledge of substation electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and/or substation physical/civil drawings
  • Experience working with scaled drawings
  • Working knowledge of survey coordinate systems a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with File Management Systems a plus
  • Strong background in mathematics
  • Reliable, detail-oriented self-starter who takes ownership of assigned tasks
