About The Position

Blumenthal Arts is seeking a full-time Assistant Technical Production Manager to help deliver exceptional arts and entertainment experiences across our venues. This role supports Blumenthal’s mission by advancing, coordinating, and executing small‑scale productions and events, including installing, operating, and maintaining technical equipment. The position works closely with clients, production teams, and stagehands to ensure smooth backstage and onstage operations that meet high standards of safety, quality, and professionalism. Additional responsibilities include assisting with labor and equipment planning, supporting rehearsals and load‑ins/outs, and helping maintain up‑to‑date technical knowledge and documentation. This position may require 40+ hours per week, including evening, weekend, and holiday shifts to support productions.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in technical theater or related field supplemented by at least 2 years of experience in technical theater with a focus on event or production management.

  • Lighting and/or sound console operation knowledge
  • Experience with Q-Lab programming and operations

Responsibilities

  • Assists in ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of production, quality, and safety.
  • Assist in supervising stagehands as assigned; supervisory duties include instructing, planning and assigning work, reviewing work, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel and acting on employee problems.
  • Assists in meeting with clients and other internal or external stakeholders to discuss production needs and budgets, prepare labor and equipment estimates, and provide operational oversight for events.
  • Install, maintain, repair and coordinate the use of stage equipment, including sound and lighting systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate backstage and front of house activities for assigned events and activities.
  • Schedule and perform show load-ins and load-outs, assist with show set-up, oversee rehearsals, and run events and activities.
  • Set up and coordinate all technical equipment for performance spaces, meetings, catering, etc. as needed.
  • Assist other departments with technical maintenance needs as requested.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and technology in technical theater.
  • Responsible for preparation and completion of all necessary internal and external paperwork including daily reports, stagehand payroll reports, contract and rider review, blueprints, etc.
  • Refer to architectural and electrical plans, diagrams, equipment manuals, show riders, lighting color swatch books, computer manual, policy and procedure manuals, etc.
