About The Position

The Assistant Manager of the Technical Group plays a key leadership role in supporting daily engineering operations with a strong emphasis on controls engineering, automation, and injection molding process performance. This position evaluates existing equipment, production processes, workflow, and technical systems to identify inefficiencies and drive improvements in uptime, quality, and productivity. The role will require full control/automation responsibility plus assisting in the implementation of strategic, supporting the development of technicians, guiding process improvements, and coordinating engineering activities across the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and/or 2-5 year of controls experience
  • Proven work experience in controls engineering and automation,
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Experience with PLCs, industrial networks, robotics, and automated systems.
  • Knowledge of process-related standards and safety regulations.
  • CAD or AutoCAD proficiency preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at times.

Nice To Haves

  • CAD or AutoCAD proficiency preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, program, and optimize PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and automation systems.
  • Design, program, simulate, and test automated machinery and control processes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for control logic, wiring schematics, and network layouts.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and implement software solutions for monitoring and control.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures related to automation hardware and software.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical and safety regulations (NEC, NFPA 79, OSHA). Injection Molding Engineering
  • Support molding operations, including personnel development, process validation, and cycle time optimization.
  • Manage mold trials, process verification, and implementation of new tooling and robotics.
  • Ensure equipment, molds, and related systems remain safe, functional, and audit-ready.
  • Provide daily guidance and coaching to technicians, controls engineers, and process team members.
  • Assign priorities, coordinate shift support, and ensure adequate technical coverage.
  • Assist with performance development and training programs.
  • Support departmental planning, budgeting, and capital project justification. Systems, Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain production documentation including equipment manuals, process sheets, and technical records.
  • Ensure adherence to internal and external standards, including safety and quality protocols.
  • Support risk assessments for new and existing processes.
  • Monitor new procedures and report results—documenting successes, failures, and revised methods.
  • Develop strategic plans that reduce inefficiencies and improve throughput.
